1. Mariners Provide Plenty of Hits
Seattle had 8 hits of night, with all but three players getting at least 1.
The middle of the order provided the majority of the production, going 5-12 with the three-five hitters.
2. Smoak Keeps Things Going
It’s certainly not breaking news that Justin Smoak has struggled this season. He’s been up and down, and only recently managed to crawl above the Mendoza Line.
The M’s first baseman had another strong night, going 2-4 with a double. He’s now hitting .500 on Seattle’s road trip.
3. Efficient Pitching… Sorta
Despite their win Sunday, Seattle ran through six different pitchers. Not exactly the most efficient of pitching use — especially when they needed five bullpen arms to get through the last two innings of the game.
Seattle only ran through two pitchers tonight. Starter Jason Vargas pitched 6 innings, while reliever Shawn Kelley mopped up the 7th and 8th.

Hate ‘em
1. Power Play
The Boston Red Sox flexed their power muscles tonight, hitting two home runs and two doubles.
Unfortunately, Seattle couldn’t follow their example. The Mariners had 8 hits tonight, but only 1 — a Justin Smoak double — was for extra bases. In contrast, the Sox managed to put up 9 hits. The difference comes in that they put up 6 runs while Seattle only put up 1.
2. Unsolvable Lester
Jon Lester has seen his fair share of woes this season, but he dominated Seattle tonight.
The Sox southpaw pitched a complete game near shutout. It was his first start of the season in which he pitched 9 innings and gave up 0 walks. Too bad it had to come against Seattle.
3. Road Woes
Tonight marked another road loss for Seattle, putting them at 9-13 away from Safeco.
Tonight’s game was the fourth in a 10-game road trip for the Mariners. The loss puts them at 1-3 to start the trip.

Lester reached the 1,000-inning plateau after getting the first out of the game. He is the 41st Red Sox pitcher to reach the milestone.
Seattle’s Dustin Ackley singled to extend his hitting streak to 10 games. Pedroia’s 14-game hitting streak ended. Seattle is 1-3 to start a 10-game road trip.
The Red Sox have won six of the last eight against the Mariners.
